TCU Connectivity troubleshooting

This extended troubleshooting guide covers most of the issues that appear when the vehicle has lost its Connectivity.

1. The TCU is not switched on or does not comunicate with the vehicle (serial port issue).

This can be seen while connecting to the vehicle on Connectivity Diagnostics via the OBD cable. The error appears:

"Serial port connection.

Something went wrong. Please check the cable connection and try again later"

Try connecting to other scooters to confirm whether the cable is faulty or not.

If the cable is not faulty, there could be an issue with the following:

  • The electrical installation is faulty. The TCU is not well connected or there is an issue internally with the cabling.
  • The TCU's battery has been drained. This issue usually is due to it not receiving the 12V input.
2 wheelers: Check if there is 12V+ DC between PIN 2 and PIN 14 of the multicontact at the main battery side OR try switching the main battery from another scooter and wait about 5 minutes.

2. GPRS: N/A, ERR or others.

There may be three reasons for this:

A. The unit needs to be rebooted to reconnect.
B. There could be a problem with the SIM card.
C. The TCU firmware is out of date (7.0.51.35 and the latest is v.7.0.61.35).

Please connect via OBD Wire as it was done in the beginning and perform the following actions:

Reason A

Set APN: This action sets the name of the access point that the TCU will attempt to connect to.

Send BOOT: This action restarts the TCU and attempts to search for a network provider (make sure the vehicle is in a location with network coverage). Wait about 5 minutes and click "Refresh" to check the status of the GPRS field.

If the TCU still cannot find a network provider, perform this last action before trying a new SIM card:

Send FACT: This action resets the TCU to factory settings and performs a reboot. Wait again for approx. 5 minutes and check whether the connection can be established.

Reason B

Replace the TCU's SIM card, as mentioned earlier (please provide us with a picture of the card's ICCID code so we can check for any problems).

Make sure that the new SIM card is one of those provided by our SILENCE provider.

Once you have inserted the new SIM card, the connection should be established after a 5-minute restart. If this is the case, please update the firmware.

Otherwise, proceed to reason C.

If all else has failed, it seems that the TCU cannot connect to a network operator, which indicates that there may be a problem with the ASTRA itself.

Please replace the TCU and perform the same checks as for A to C.

If a TCU reports 100% GPRS via OBD WIRE, a request to link the newly installed TCU with all the corresponding data must be sent to connectivity@silence.eco (images included) as per process.

If the vehicle can connect after replacing the TCU, do not throw away the SIM cards as they may well be valid.
